With all the hustle and bustle of the city streets, it is important to find the time in your schedule to take a break.  For those of you who are trying to find a moment of relaxation within the city limits, here is a list featuring best parks that litter the city’s neighborhoods. New York City may be known as the concrete jungle, but nearly a seventh of its area is covered by public parks.

Central Park: One of the most famous parks in the world, Central Park sits smack-dab in the center of upper Manhattan. Boasting upwards of 800 acres, the park is chock-full of historical treasures as well as open space. Check out the official park website to learn about all the great stuff that goes on in the area. From tours to sporting event to a world-renowned zoo, Central Park boasts enough activities to keep you occupied for weeks on end.

The-Highline-630x420The High Line: While the High-Line is far from your traditional park, this elevated walkway, which first opened in 2009, is as enjoyable as any other park you’ll find in New York City. The High Line, which was transformed from a dilapidated railway space, is an elevated walkway on which you can travel above and peer down on the busy Chelsea streets.

Brooklyn Bridge Park: Unlike both Central and Prospect Park, this park was not built as an effort to preserve wilderness in a modern city. This 85-acre space sitting on the Brooklyn waterfront has become immensely popular in recent years. It boasts phenomenal views of the Manhattan skylines well as a functioning century-old merry go round as well as several other fun attractions.

Prospect Park: This huge park in Brooklyn is the brainchild of the men who designed Central Park, Calver Vaux, and Frederick Law Olmstead. Although Prospect Park may be lesser known than its Manhattan sibling, many landscape connoisseurs consider their Brooklyn park to be their true piéce de résistance.
